Safe and Secure

My grandson, David, and I were walking along the Zimmerman Trail in Mentor, Ohio on Sunday. The trail is part of the Buckeye Trail in Ohio. There is so much grandeur concerning the Mentor Marsh with its vastness.

Well, within all this largeness David came upon this little guy looking so safe and secure in the clutches of an old tree! He took this picture and then we hurried home to get a look at his results. I could feel his excitement as we gazed at the "perfectness" of this little fellow!

Tree Volvariella
by: Amy

Of course I never support making an identification based on a pic from the Internet, but I have to say that this looks like a tree volvariella. Large, oversized cap, deep cut, growing out of a wound in a tree, right time of year. It looked just like the tree volvariellas that grow on a dead tree on my mom's property. Some of them are huge.

Nice pic, David!

Little guy peeking out

Wonderful picture. WE would love to see more from this location. Unfortunately here in FL we don't get to see mushrooms like this. Please keep sending more from this source. THat and the tree are great.
